The 4th
Annual Peter Hinds Tournament is now history. Congratulations to
Champions FCC (Combo of friends from HICC, HCSC and CCC). Congratulations
to the second place team Houston West Indies. Both were the only unbeaten
teams in the competition with 3 wins. Both won their semifinal based on
run rate differential when the rains came. The final was not
played. FCC was declared champions based on net overall run differential
throughout the tournament.
Congratulations also to beaten semifinalist HCC and CUICC (Combo of CICC and CUCC). Both recorded a victory in the preliminaries and put up spirited fights in the semifinals. Congratulations to MCC and RCC that got eliminated in the preliminaries but put up.
The tournament MVP was Sushil Nadkarni from FCC (Scored 82, a 20+, a 30+ and bowled and fielded well). Other contenders were Ankit Mehta (FCC) and Patrick Winchester (HWI). The Best Batsman of the tournament was Ankit Mehta from FCC (scored 86 and 66). Other contenders were Sushil Nadkarni (FCC). The Best Bowler of the tournament was Joey Smith of HWI with 6 wickets. Other contenders were Tejas (FCC) and Atif of RCC. The batsman with the most individual runs in a game was Ankit Mehta (86) and the bowler with the most individual wickets in a game was Aubrey Davis (4 wickets). Sheik of CUICC took the lone hat-trick.
This was the first time the tournament was run in this format. It was a successful tournament. There was good cricket. There was good food. The music was good. There was good friendship. There was good umpiring. There were lots of other good things. On the negative side, we could have been crisper on the starting times.
Unfortunately, here I cannot thank each individual who helped to make the tournament a success. They know who they are and I/we thank them. We would like to thank our various sponsors for food, funds and other support. We thank all the participants and all the supporters. We thank all the officials – Cameron Best, Herman Geddes, Khalid Nabi, Sanjit Tayi, L. A. MacKenzie and in particular Donald McClaren – who did every game available. Great thanks go out to Channi Bains. He was tower of strength, reason and support. Special thank to Steve Forrest and family for his/their tireless work in many things including impeccable ground preparation and food. Thanks to Clinton Roache (the event manager) and the HWI team and supporters who made and run the tournament.
On behalf of Peter Hinds, our President Dr. Sylvester Thompson and Clinton Roache and the West Indies Sports Organization of Houston (WISOH), see you next year.
